Background and objectives
Translate or proof read a report summarising the status of female genital mutilation (FGM), legal framework, undertaken initiatives as well as challenges in both Somalia. Please note that for the purpose of our reports, Somalia and Somaliland are treated as two different entities. Two to three volunteers will be selected. One volunteer will be assigned the translation and the other one(s) the proof-reading. Searching for links to Arabic official texts/original legal texts and using the exact wording (rather than back translating in Arabic our English translation) are expected. An in-house online glossary of terms is available to both translator and proof reader, to be completed and further developed when/if necessary. Coordination will be managed by 28 Too Many, direct communication will take place via email (please check your junk inbox). Volunteers will be given due credit on the final product.
Translation and interpretation
28 Too Many is a values based charity working to end female genital mutilation (FGM). Our primary focus is on research and enabling local initiatives to end FGM in the 28 African countries where it is practised and in other countries across the world where members of those communities have migrated. We provide knowledge, tools, best practice models and support networks which help anti-FGM campaigners and organisations working with communities to bring about sustainable change to end FGM. We also network and advocate for the global eradication of FGM, working closely with other charities and organisations in the violence against women sector and participating in global campaigns, such as the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Based Violence. 28 Too Many won the TrustLaw Collaboration Award in 2018 and the Best Collaborative Initiative Award at the LawyerMag Awards in 2019 for its unprecedented legal research series reports ("The Law and FGM" reports).
