This project aims to improve the hygiene and quality of sanitation of several schools in Cameroon. Ensuring access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene in schools improves health, school attendance, and learning performance. This is crucial to create an environment for a sustainable development of young People in Cameroon. The initial proposal tries to create and improve hygiene and sanitation infrastructures of 10 secondary schools and 10 primary schools, targeting more than 25 000 children and teens. This project is under the scope of Sustainable Development Goal 4 - Quality Education - and 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation.
According to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Standards for Schools in Low-cost Settings , schools, particularly those in rural areas, often completely lack drinking-water and sanitation and hand washing facilities; alternatively, where such facilities do exist they are often inadequate in both quality and quantity.

The mission of CAMAAY is to help vulnerable or marginalized young people achieve their full potential, regardless of sex, background, religion, color, or mental or physical disability, and to harness that energy to create healthy, prosperous, independent, and sustainable communities. Our goals for Cameroon are food security, economic independence, a sustainable environment, and human dignity for all. CAMAAY is a fledgling organization with a lot of passion and project ideas.This project would work for the Sustainable Development Goal 6 - Clean Water and Sanitation that tries to ensure clean, accessible water for all with the main goals of:
• By 2030, achieve universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water for all;
• By 2030, achieve access to adequate and equitable sanitation and hygiene for all and end open defecation, paying special attention to the needs of women and girls and those in vulnerable situations;
• Support and strengthen the participation of local communities in improving water and sanitation management
This project would also work towards the Sustainable Development Goal 4 -
Volunteers: 5 needed
1-5 hours per week / 4 weeks
Volunteers should be skilled in architecture design and any other engineering related skills, should be able to come up with simple designs that can be interpreted by local non-qualified construction agents. They should be good in communication and team work. Any previous experience is an additional factor.
