Disaster risk reduction
The purpose of this project is to promote a culture of risk-awareness and disaster reduction as well as to enhance the community’s capacity to use and access science to formulate decisions that support flood mitigation in Imo State, Nigeria. It will support and educate the people in developing a comprehensive flood remediation plan that includes environmental impacts and strategies. The project will also put an emphasis on community engagement, helping the community members grapple with the causes of flooding and what the future may hold in terms of projected precipitation and sea level rise under a changing climate, by facilitating a discussion with the community members on ways to start mitigating these local flooding impacts.
