During the last two years, the Anglophone Crisis has engulfed Cameroon in a brutal conflict. What started as peaceful strikes to end the marginalization of English-speaking regions in the country quickly turned into violent revolts, with government forces and anti-government forces clashing, plunging the country into destructive conflict. It remains unclear how and when the crisis will end. To date, over 2 000 civilians have been killed, 180 villages have been burnt down and some 160 000 refugees have settled in Nigerian camps while more than 200 000 citizens have been considered internally displaced persons (IDPs), the majority of them being women. The background objective of the soccer events organized in the communities will be contributing to peace and reconciliation. During such evens key issues will be discussed such as tolerance and trust. The aim of these events is to bring young people together to enjoy positive experiences, and thus, promoting reduction and prevention of tension and preparing ground for long-term reconciliation.
