Background and objectives
The teacher volunteer connects to a digital classroom in a rural village, through Skype, and conducts a live, interactive class for 2 hours every week. A minimum commitment of 6 weeks is expected from each volunteer. The subjects to be taught are English, Mathematics, Science. Each Volunteer is assigned a grade (5th, 6th, 7th or 8th) in a school located in one of the remote villages of Maharashtra. The selected volunteers need to be fluent in Marathi. Powered by advanced technology and an elaborate syllabus, Teacher Volunteers virtually engage with the children on a real time basis and perform the tasks of teaching/demonstrating the pre-planned topics and concepts, appropriate to the student’s grade. They extensively use online teaching resources, including digitized textbooks that is provided to them. They are also offered constant support from an online eVidyaloka Coordinator at the back end.
