Background and objectives
The Immigration and Borders Management division of the International Organization for Migration is looking for the support of two volunteers for the translation of visa checklists and related information material aimed at facilitating a safe, orderly, and regular migration. The contents have been prepared by the IOM Immigration and Visas Unit. The terminology involved is related to visa application procedures, with an intended non-specialist approach to reach a broader public. The documentation to be translated totals 110 pages.
Translation and interpretation
IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need, including refugees and internally displaced people. The objective of this opportunity focusses on enabling visa applicants to fully understand all aspects of the migration process, from the visa application stage, to arrival at the port of entry and subsequent alien registration requirements. By making the entire process more informed, the aim is to disrupt the actions of unscrupulous visa agents/brokers and to empower migrants with accurate information. The online volunteers' contribution is key to ensuring the necessary information is provided, and in a language appropriate to the needs of migrants. In all the related project will require translations into nine different languages in support of operations in 11 countries.
Volunteers: 3 needed
6-10 hours per week / 5 weeks
Native Mongolian language speaker. Previous professional experience in the translation of documents. Good organizational skills and time management. Attention to detail. Familiarity with migration-related issues and visa related terminology is a plus. All applications must be submitted in English. Candidates may be required to submit a short test translation as part of the selection process.
