Background and objectives
IOM works to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to migrants in need. Under the direct supervision of the project manager in IOM Niger and in close coordination with the rest of the Border Management (IBM) unit, the successful candidate will be responsible and accountable for copyediting and proofreading work on study reports (120 pages in French) related to communities’ perceptions about border security along the Nigerien border with Burkina Faso. We will provide the soft copy of the documents and other related guidelines to the volunteer. Since we work to improve awareness and make relevant information accessible to all, this report will be largely published and advocated for. The volunteers will find opportunity very interesting.
Writing and editing
Other communications related experience
Since realities on the ground and the goals of governments and stakeholders in migration management change over time in both nature and priority, IBM team's activities have to evolve continuously to meet challenges along the Nigerien borders. Our projects in Niger seek to promote good practices across the region on community-security forces relations, and communities engagement in border management. We conducted preliminary assessments to know more about 1) the perception of border communities on threats and opportunities related to the border, 2) the level of trust and collaboration they have with local authorities and security forces and 3) the reaction of communities and national law enforcement agencies to a sudden crisis in border regions, precipitated by terrorist activities. This task will therefore support the mission of IOM Niger in ensuring quality reports complying with IOM and donor standards. The report will be largely published and promoted, and it will help supporting dialogue between communities and the authorities through relevant and impactful awareness campaigns and communication activities/equipment in the field.
