Background and objectives
The task will involved a dedicated volunteer to work closely with the Foundation contact person through email collaboration, to identify a local bamboo species and its potential usage in Papua New Guinea as an alternative to wood and as an eco-friendly material. The task involve writing a proposal from the data accumulated by the Foundations contact person to seek funding for research purposes. All information will be made available by the Foundations contact person when writing the proposal.
Project development and management
Sustainable natural resources management and climate change adaptation
The idea behind this project is to identify an indigenous species of bamboo that can adapt well to all treatment and processing stages and that can be used for traditional or modern house construction where it will benefit the local communities for sustainable community development.
Volunteers: 1 needed
6-10 hours per week / 4 weeks
The volunteer must know each stages of bamboo production, bamboo life circle analysis and must have conducted practical research using various woody bamboo species in the past. He or she must have strong communication skills and can be able to work with people of different background and culture. Qualification in Resource Management and Civil Engineering is a added bonus for the successful applicant. He or she can work towards a deadline and working with limited supervision.
