Background and objectives
Looking for a highly skilled, detail-obsessed, professional copy editor with a great attitude to provide copy editing and proof read on a special needs resource book for new parents of a child with disabilities. The perfect candidate should have a few years experience in professional (preferably book editing) copy editing and is comfortable with The AP Style Book. Book publishing experience would be a distinct advantage. We’re NOT looking for a writer who can edit. We’re looking for a copy editor with experience in book editing. He/she will be responsible for finalizing content that is error-free in regards to Createspace/Kindle Direct Publishing.

The Nathan Ebanks Foundation is a parent formed and led nonprofit organization, dedicated to helping and supporting children with disabilities and their families in Jamaica, who otherwise have no voice or access to services. Our mission is to lift the standard of life for children with disabilities, and to support their inclusion in our society. One of our key strategies to fulfill this mission, is the creation of support resources. To date we have published two books and two publications which are in circulation. This current task is to provide copy/book editing supports to our newest project - How to Cope with Being the New Parent of a Child with Special Needs -. This includes - review and edit the manuscript, making recommendations for the organization of the content, correct errors in grammar (spelling, punctuation, and syntax), check copy for style and readability, make recommendations for page layout, photographs, etc., help compose chapter titles, and prepare final copy for print. This will support our organization is bringing this much needed book to print.
Volunteers: 1 needed
6-10 hours per week / 6 weeks
The ideal candidate should have a college degree, majoring in English, or journalism and have advanced degrees in literature or the healthcare field, a strong command of English grammar and spelling and be comfortable working on a computer. Previous writing experience in a book publishing/copy editing environment is a must. Experience in the self publishing field would be a distinct advantage.
