Task
Background and objectives
Requirements
We are looking for three volunteers to translate a document with country-specific information that relate to armed conflict and the impact of non-state armed actors on human rights. The document is part of a full report that is 10,700 words. The translation will be necessary for a part of this report, the word count of which may be around 3000-5000 words (10-11 pages). The selected volunteer(s) will receive the document by email and be expected to complete the translation within two weeks. It will provide an opportunity for the volunteer to familiarize him/herself with the UN human rights terminology as well as the subject area of mercenarism and mercenary-related activities, including those of foreign armed actors.

Translation and interpretation
As part of its functions, independent experts of the Human Rights Council conduct analyses of countries in order to better understand issues of focus. For this report, the analysis will focus on the impact of non-state armed actors in a particular country, that is faced with the challenges of non-state armed groups who have adversely affected the human rights the local population. The issues of focus are primarily on non-state armed groups such as mercenaries and foreign armed actors.
Volunteers: 3 needed
11-20 hours per week / 2 weeks
Experience in translation work from English into French. Familiarity with UN and human rights terminology is an asset. Shortlisted candidates may be asked to translate a short paragraph as part of the selection process.
