Outreach and advocacy
Journalism, mass media and broadcasting
The discussion on the intersection between Culture and Gender Equality builds on SAFIGI Outreach Foundations goal for SDG 5 for gender equality and equity. Safety First for Girls provides a safe space to talk about good aspects in local cultures and aspects of traditions that need to be improved or eradicated (such as FGM, child labor) in order to achieve gender equality. With globalization, environmental changes and development consistently spreading globally, it has become apparent that some traditional practices promote equal thriving of human beings while others pose a threat to equality and upholding of human rights. Having a podcast with perspectives from all over the world will challenge us to look at equality from views of different traditions and norms, thereby creating a first step to a more equal and safer world. This project builds on the 'Everyday A Girl' project in which we showcased gender equality through photo stories last year. SAFIGIs vision is to create a word where girls are empowered, equipped and fulfilled for global socio-economic development.
