UNDP's work on the climate security nexus is expanding. The impacts of climate change can aggravate the root causes of violent extremism, contribute to push and pull factors for recruitment, and alter the broader strategic context in ways that strengthen the power of violent extremism organizations (VEOs), giving them increased control or room for manoeuvre. In turn, VEOs, and security operations to counter VEOs, can increase the exposure and vulnerability of a population to climate hazards. Unstable environments caused by violent extremism can disrupt livelihoods, damage economic performance and limit the feasibility of measures which strengthen climate adaptation and resilience. The volunteer will be designing the graphic identity of this work through developing layout for specific key publications related to climate security and violent extremism.
