Background and objectives
The selected volunteers are expected to assist with translating the English contents into Arabic for our SDG 4 web portal. Contents needed to be translated include news articles, "In Focus" articles, titles of documents and publications, etc. The length of each article varies from 200-600 words in English. Currently there are around 10 articles needed to be translated; new tasks will be assigned throughout the service (no more than 3 new tasks per week). The selected volunteers will be granted access to the backstage management platform of the web portal and will be trained on how to edit web contents via the platform (which is extremely easy). Expected final output of the volunteers is an updated web portal with aligned contents in both English and Arabic.
Translation and interpretation
UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Beirut serves the 19 Member States in the Arab Region by providing policy guidance and training in the education sector, as well as facilitating partnership and cooperation for education, thus contributing to the realization of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote life long learning opportunities for all. The SDG 4 Web Portal therefore serves as a knowledge sharing platform for all the Member States as well as partners from all UN and non-UN agencies, including Civil Society, higher education networks, research community, teachers’ unions, etc. It shares successful experiences across the region and inform Member States the latest progress towards achieving SDG 4. Regarding this aim, it is important to develop the Arabic version of the web portal, in order to reach the Member States more effectively. By facilitating this process, online volunteers contribute immensely to an enhanced communication across the Arab Region and thereby to the realization of SDG 4 in the region.
