Background and objectives
We are seeking the support of an online volunteer for the following tasks: 1) Monitoring and analysis of national, regional and international media coverage that pertain to refugee related issues and to the work of the office. 2) Production and distribution of five editions of the daily media scans that are sent out at 9am (Canberra - GM +10) and/or 4pm (Canberra - GM +10) Monday - Friday as per the External Relations team roster.
Journalism, mass media and broadcasting
UNHCR’s Regional Representation focuses on three key areas of the Office’s mandate: legal protection; resettlement; and public information. The selected volunteer will provide valuable support to the Public Information Unit, which raises awareness about UNHCR's work and refugee issues among parliamentarians, schools, the media and the general public.
Volunteers: 1 needed
11-20 hours per week / 12 weeks
Graduate student or recent graduate (refugee/humanitarian/development studies, social sciences, communications, media, journalism of related areas); Excellent oral and written English skills; Very good analytical, communication and research skills; Detailed knowledge of Australian and New Zealand media and politics; Good knowledge of refugee issues and UNHCR’s mandate highly desirable; Ability to work independently; and Flexibility, team working skills, professional and personal integrity.
