Task
Background and objectives
Requirements
The task consists of proofreading training materials which have been translated from English to French for a five day training for a group of Francophone African women leaders on mediation, conflict prevention and preventive diplomacy. The content (60 pages, 600 words) has been developed in English by experts on the subject matter and subsequently translated into French via the UNV website. Both versions will be made available to the volunteer by email in an editable format (either Word or Powerpoint), and the volunteer will be asked to proofread the French materials to ensure the fluidity of the style as well as the accuracy of the translation, in particular the technical terms. The accurate translation will enable the delivery of the training to a Francophone audience in September 2019. Online Volunteers will be given a certificate, as well as receive acknowledgement on the final product.

Translation and interpretation
UNITAR is supporting the African Union by developing materials for a five-day induction training on mediation, conflict prevention and preventive diplomacy for the new members of FemWise Africa, a panafrican network of women mediators and peacebuilders. The foreseen format of the training will be as follows: one day will be dedicated to the formal induction of new members into the Network (introducing the members to the mandate, role and structure of FemWise, and clarifying how FemWise fits into existing regional and continental peace and security structures), while the remaining four days will be entirely dedicated to training the newly inducted members on mediation and conflict prevention theory and techniques.
Volunteers: 4 needed
11-20 hours per week / 2 weeks
The volunteer must have excellent translation skills (English to French) and some background knowledge of the African peace and security context as well as of the field of mediation and conflict prevention, as the materials will heavily involve technical terms and concepts, as well as acronyms and technical terms related to the African peace and security architecture. Previous experience in translating training and facilitation materials would be useful.
