In 2016, the Peoples’ Republic of China, Government of Malawi (GoM) and UNDP entered an agreement to implement a small grants scheme on Disaster Risk Reduction to contribute to disaster risk reduction and recovery among communities. Five community based organization (CBOs) and one civil protection committee(CPC) were successful and awarded with the grants to implement micro-projects focusing of construction of evacuation facilities and flood risk management structures (river bank protection, dyke and check dams) from five of the fifteen disaster prone districts in Malawi.
